Kyoto Seika University has three policies on the management of educational activities: a diploma policy, a curriculum policy, and an admissions policy.

Purpose of the Undergraduate Program (Article 1 of the Academic Regulations)
Undergraduate programs at Kyoto Seika aim to impart a broad range of knowledge, research and teach profound learning and arts, and build character so that graduates can become better members of society.

Curriculum Policy
Kyoto Seika systematically organizes its general education courses and faculty-specific courses, offering classes that combine lectures, seminars, practicums, and other methods as appropriate in order to achieve the mission of our diploma policy.
Our curriculum system is clearly shown in our course numbering and curriculum map.
1. Educational Content
(1) General education courses
General education courses cover a wide range of academic fields to cultivate the attitude of a free individual living in society while valuing each person’s expertise. Specifically, these courses consist of an introductory program, minor courses, a practical social skills development program, and career courses in addition to creative subjects, global subjects, and liberal arts subjects.
(2) Faculty-specific courses
Faculty-specific courses consist of common subjects and specialized subjects. Both types of subjects are organized systematically to enable students to acquire core skills and expertise in specialized fields, develop a proactive and independent attitude, and cultivate the ability to apply these skills in a comprehensive manner.
2. Educational Methodologies
(1) Kyoto Seika implements educational methodologies that incorporate active learning perspectives in order to develop students’ independence.
(2) Course content is designed to take into account study time inside and outside of class.
(3) Kyoto Seika supports students’ autonomous study by instructing them to create study portfolios.
3. Assessment of Learning Outcomes
Kyoto Seika assesses students’ acquisition of the abilities and qualities presented in the policy on awarding degrees, as well as their overall ability to apply these abilities, at two levels: the faculty/department level and the course level.
The method of assessment used at each level is as follows.
(1) Faculty/department level
Assessment at the faculty or departmental level is based on the achievement of the advancement and graduation requirements for the prescribed course of study in that faculty or department.
(2) Course level
Course-level assessments are based on the evaluation of the learning objectives of the course as presented in the syllabus.
Admissions Policy
Area 1: Knowledge, Understanding & Skills
1. The student possesses basic academic ability and skills equivalent to that of a high school curriculum
Area 2: Thinking, Judgment & Expression
1. The student is able to think about familiar issues in a logical way based on knowledge and information
2. The student is able to understand the opinions of others and be able to express one’s own ideas clearly

1. The student is motivated to approach new fields and diversity without preconceptions and to continue learning throughout life

Curriculum Policy
The curriculum is composed of three course groups: Joint Introductory Classes, Specialist Lecture Classes, and Specialist Research Classes. These groups enable students to systematically acquire skills and expertise and learn to apply these skills and expertise to interdisciplinary fields.
- In Joint Introductory Classes, students learn the features of a wide variety of expression regardless of genre while studying academic research and learning methods and practical methods for applying modes of expression in society.
- In Specialist Lecture Classes, students not only acquire knowledge and thinking ability in their field of specialization, but also gain broader insight and knowledge by taking lectures offered by other graduate schools.
- In Specialist Research Classes, students explore their own specialized themes and issues, and work on their final project or master’s thesis. We have a system whereby each student receives instruction from multiple instructors.
Admissions Policy
Prospective students must have a strong interest in the specialized fields offered by our graduate schools and major specializations as well as a clear intention to conduct research and practice in these fields in the future.
